Privacy Policy

This website is operated by the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, 87-West Canal Bank Road, Thokar Niaz Baig, Lahore 53700, Pakistan.

This policy explains what personal information we collect through the site, why we collect it and the choices you have. It applies to cemb.edu.pk and the pages linked from it.

We collect only what is needed for the service you use.

• Newsletter subscription — your e-mail address and the time you subscribed. We also store a one-way (hashed) fingerprint of your network address, which cannot be turned back into the address itself, to detect abuse of the form.
• Guest House booking request — your name, CNIC or passport number, e-mail address, mobile and WhatsApp numbers, employment status, institution or company, postal address, country and city, dates of stay, number of rooms and guests, any extra mattresses, and any special request you choose to write.
• Messages you send us — the contents of any e-mail you send to a CEMB address, including your address and any details you include.
• Staff accounts — authorised CEMB staff who manage the website have accounts with a name, e-mail address and an encrypted password. Their actions in the administration area are logged for security.
• Technical information — like most websites, our servers record standard technical data when a page is requested, such as the date and time, the page requested and the browser type, to keep the site running and secure.

We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising.

• Newsletter — to send you CEMB news, events and opportunities, and a confirmation that you have subscribed.
• Guest House — to assess your request, contact you to confirm availability and manage your stay. A request is not a confirmed booking until the Guest House team contacts you.
• Enquiries — to reply to the message you sent.
• Running the site — to keep it secure, prevent spam and misuse, and understand technical problems.

This site uses very little browser storage, and none of it is for advertising or tracking across other websites.

• Session cookie — a small cookie that keeps forms secure (it protects against forged requests) and lets staff stay signed in to the administration area. It is removed when your session ends.
• Theme preference — if you choose a colour theme, your choice is saved in your browser so the site looks the same on your next visit. It is not sent to us.

Some pages let you play videos from YouTube or follow links to Facebook, Instagram and similar services. Those services set their own cookies under their own policies once you use them. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will continue to work.

We share personal information only where it is needed to deliver the service or where the law requires it:

• CEMB staff — for example the Guest House team receives booking requests, and the communications team manages the newsletter.
• E-mail provider — messages sent by the website, such as booking acknowledgements and newsletter confirmations, are delivered through Google’s e-mail service.
• Authorities — where disclosure is required by law, a court order or a lawful request from a public authority.

We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, or as the University’s record-keeping rules require. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Guest House records are kept for the period needed to manage the stay and for accounts and audit.

Access to personal information is limited to authorised staff and protected by sign-in. Passwords are stored in encrypted form, and forms are protected against forgery and automated abuse. No system is completely secure, so please do not send sensitive information by ordinary e-mail unless you must.

To make a request, write to the address below and tell us which form you used and the e-mail address you gave. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.

• Unsubscribe — ask us to remove your address from the newsletter at any time.
• Access and correction — ask what information we hold about you and have inaccurate details corrected.
• Deletion — ask us to delete information we no longer need, subject to any record-keeping we are required to maintain.

Our pages link to other sites, including social media, publishers and partner institutions. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.

We may update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised, and the current version is always on this page.
